Why Did Nigerians Stop Talking About 5G Network

The fifth generation network (5G), is an advancement on today's 4G network, with enhanced capabilities,that provide a platform for new and emerging technologies such as Internet of Things(IoT),Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Big Data to fascinate the way we live and work.


 One of Nigeria biggest networking company MTN, got the approval of the Nigerian Communication Communiation (NCC), to carry out a trial test on the 5G network back then in 2019, that lasted for 3month,in Abuja. And which was proposed/said, to be in full operation and be evenly deployed across the country by 2020.

Time passed by, the awaited year for the new innovation reached, but a drawback in the set-up groom out from no where, when the installation and deployment was about to began, several complain and rumour where received about the health harzard the 5G radiation is going to have on citizen, and also the 5G being a special aid for the spread of the ongoing global pandemic (COVID-19) in some advance countries that has started using the 5G network. Which made the Senate, to mandate its committees on public health, communication and science and technology, to investigate the status of 5G network in the country as well as its impact on citizens.


How ever, the Nigerian Communication Commission(NCC) later disregard the claim,that the 5G is in correlation with the ongoing pandemic COVID-19, in a post they made via their web portal. The NCC, also reveal that, the 5G has not been installed or deployed in any part of Nigeria, and also made it clear that there is no exact time frame for the commencement of 5G network in Nigeria, only when all condition are right, and all doubt is cleared.

Some countries, the NCC made mention of to have deployed 5G network in their country are South Korea, China, USA , Germany and others. And it was said,to have been deployed since 2019. The NCC also emphasize that, the country has more than the required spectrum for 5G network.

But for now, all installment and deployment of the 5G network across the country, has been suspended. Hopes are still being made on best scenarios, before commencement.
